Potentilla atrosanguinea (Loddiges ex D. Don)
grassy slope
July - August
Subalpine, Alpine

This species grows wild in the Himalayan mountains (South Asia) and was introduced to Europe as an ornamental plant in the mid-19th century. In its sites of origin, it lives at altitudes of between 3,300 and 4,600 metres, which correspond, given the different latitudes, to the subalpine and alpine altitudinal zones in the Alps. It has long-petiolate and trifoliate leaves that are reminiscent of strawberry leaves, but that are greyish-white on the lower page due to a dense down. The flowers have dark red petals, a colour not common for mountain flora.
