Pulsatilla halleri subsp halleri

This species is an Alpine endemic, i.e. it grows exclusively in the Alps. Specifically, it is endemic to the Western Alps. It differs from Pulsatilla montana in its smaller, erect and more open, light purple flowers. The entire plant is covered with dense silver hairs, which are an adaptation to the arid environments it likes to live in. We can observe it after the snow melts in spring, in alpine grasslands.

The name of the genus Pulsatilla comes from the latin word pulsare (to oscillate), in reference to the fruit oscillations because of the wind.
